What about if the group is not local (as in a linked group) - like that using the table created with the double opt-in WP plug-in.  My guess is that one needs to create the two fields within the WP plug-in, so that they are available to the local software and the fields can be updated accordingly.  
Where are these instructions or the verbiage to let those using the plug-in that additional steps are required? Hmmmm!!!
I also noticed that the documentation is based on a prior version as the screen shots do not correspond. Hmmm!! 
I was hoping I found an workable solution to having my WP clients not have to buy into 3rd party services.  The configuration and setup for building an Auto-responder sequence (scheduled) is a bit cumbersome. This is a common, widely used aspect... why make it so messy with scripts and custom filters.  Maybe looking at how the other folks are doing it might provide some insight for the next release. Certainly on the right track here and I commend you for that.</description>
